At the start of this new year, a new hashtag was birthed on social media: #my2018stack. Created by the lovely Llanet of @topknotsandjesus on Instagram, this tag spiraled into a whirlwind of love and support within the faith and planner based communities.
Women tagged each other to see their “stacks”, a set of books and/or planners that each participant planned to use for the year. Many shared in their captions that they wouldn’t have dared shared their private study habits or books publicly; others shared that they didn’t know about some of the books posted and were elated to learn of them. I was tagged by my dear friend, Monika (@mon_creates) and shared my own 10 book stack of creative and literary delight!
I scrolled through posts from others and many mentioned they weren’t sure what to add to their stack yet. The following is my suggested list of books you will want to have on those creative desks! (Note: This is a faith-based blog; also some of the following books can be combined.)
1. Scripture Writing Book/Journal
Having a place to write about your daily biblical studies will encourage you to stay motivated to read. It also becomes a visual representation of your relationship with God. Carrying it with you and referring to its contents in times of distress can be comforting.
2. Bible Journal
If you follow this blog, you are probably participating in or beginning to participate in creating illustrations or documenting via text your understanding of the Bible. Using this form of study can help you gain a deeper understanding of the Word and allow you to draw closer to Him. Journaling bibles have extended margins or you can journal in a separate notebook/binder. You can also use a bible to journal in the margins only or illustrate over the text (using a different bible for devotional time).
3. Planner
The start of the new year can create excitement around your new ideas and plans of success. Make sure you have somewhere to write those plans in an organized format! From spiral bound planners at your local store to bullet journals (also known as “bujos”) to traveler’s notebooks, you can be efficient and artistic in how you document your future success.
4. Motivational/Inspirational Texts
Reading is FUNdamental and essential in feeding your mind. In order to develop a mindset of positivity you have to strengthen your mind with positive knowledge. Self-help and personal growth, spiritual and business development books will support you in moving in the direction of your dreams.
5. Journal
Don’t forget to document the good! Journaling is a great way to relieve stress and remember the good of each day. Note: while venting is allowed, try to focus on documenting gratitude. The Bible says to write the vision–your vision is not negative, so try not to emphasize it in your writing.
6. Prayer Book
Designate a time for prayer in your day and document your prayers. When you look back over what you have written at the end of the year, you will grasp a visual of how the Lord has blessed you! Things you may have forgotten will come back to your remembrance. Also, keep in mind that you are instructed to write the vision…
7. Books for Pleasure
Sometimes you just want to read what you want to read. Create a list of books that you desire to catch up on or titles from your favorite author. Add a few of them to your stack!
8. Devotionals
If you are reading this you are probably a fan of devotional texts, texts written by faith-based community leaders highlighting their own spiritual insights. Many devotionals are accompanied by eye catching illustrations and photos. Check out my February devotional, Taken!
Out of these 8 suggestions, how many of them are in your stack?

I’ve only recently (as in the last week or so!) stumbled upon bible journaling on Instagram, which, ultimately, led me to your blog. You’re such an inspiration! LOVE your creativity and passion for His Word and your faith. ✝️💓

This pretty much covers my stack too! I also added an art book because I believe stretching my mind to learn new skills is important for me. Enjoyed your post Laquisha!

I think that’s pretty much my stack too! The only thing I don’t have is a regular journal, but I do have a journal for scripture writing, prayers, and devotional notes ♥
